
Owls Set For AAC Championships Saturday

HOUSTON – Rice men's cross country is back in action Saturday morning at the AAC Cross Country Championships in Greenville, North Carolina, hosted by East Carolina. The race is set for an 8:15 a.m. start.
Rice has had several strong showings this season against top-level opponents, including a sixth-place team finish at the Chile Pepper Festival at the University of Arkansas and a 14th-place finish at Texas A&M two weeks ago. The Owls have defeated multiple Power-5 schools at several races, including Oklahoma, UCLA, Houston, TCU, LSU and Baylor.
Gus Gannon has led the way for the Owls, finishing second at the Rice Invitational in his cross country debut and finishing 12th out of 317 athletes at Arkansas.
The men currently sit seventh in the USTFCCCA South-Central Region rankings. Tulane (third) and North Texas (eighth) are also ranked in the Top 15 for the region. Temple sits ninth in the Mid-Atlantic Region, Tulsa (fifth) and Wichita State (ninth) in the Midwest Region and Charlotte (seventh) in the Southeast Region.
Rice finished fourth as a team at the 2022 C-USA Championships with Elliot Metcalf and Travis Dowd earning All-Conference honors.
