
Gannon Leads Owls at Arturo Barrios Invitational

COLLEGE STATION - The Rice men's cross country team had a strong showing today against high-caliber competition at the 2023 Arturo Barrios Invitational, hosted by Texas A&M. The Owls finished 14th as a team out of the 39 schools.
Freshman Gus Gannon led the Owls for the third-straight meet, with a 29th-place finish with a time of 23:57.6 for the 8k race.
Jackson Moran cracked the top 50, finishing 37th with a time of 24:04.5. Ben Tijerina, Will McDermott and Elliot Metcalf all finished just seconds apart from each other to round out the Rice scorers.
Tulane won the meet with 103 points with Indiana, Incarnate Word, Texas A&M, and South Dakota State rounding out the top five. UTEP's Victor Kibiego won the race with a time of 22:54.8 while Tulane's Bradley Makuvire was second with a time of 23:04.8
Along with Tulane, Rice also saw North Texas and UTSA at today's meet, with the Mean Green finishing 19th and the Roadrunners in 27th.
The Owls will be back in action on Oct. 28 in Greenville, North Carolina for the 2023 AAC Men's and Women's Cross Country Championships, hosted by East Carolina.
