Owls finish 22nd overall in talented field
BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Rice Owls women's cross country team went up against some of the best teams in the country Friday morning, placing 22nd overall out of 46 teams in the Women's College Gold 6k race at the Paul Short Run on the Goodman Campus Cross Country Course.
Rice junior Grace Forbes once again led the way for the Owls with a ninth place finish, crossing the finish line in 19:45.2 to top last year's time of 19:53.3 when she placed second. Forbes ran the opening mile in 5:21.7 and cross the two-mile barrier at 10:44.2.

Seven of Rice's 10 runners recorded personal best 6k times.
"We ran much better than last year's group at this meet," Rice head coach Jim Bevan said. "This was a very loaded race at the national level and I am happy and excited for where we are at this time of year and excited about the performances and what we're learning. This team has potential to do great things when the time is right."
In comparison to last year's Paul Short Run, the Owls five-person average time this season was 21:01 compared to 21:42 in 2021, a 41-second improvement.
