HOUSTON – Rice women's basketball head coach Lindsay Edmonds announced a pair of additions to her staff on Friday with the hiring of Mia Gallo (video coordinator) and Darryln McDonough (director of operations).
Gallo is a familiar face from Conference USA, having spent last season as a graduate assistant coach for a Southern Miss team that went 18-12 overall. Prior to her time in Hattiesburg, Miss., Gallo worked two seasons as a graduate assistant for the Boise State women's basketball team. Her responsibilities included video exchange, in addition to assisting with on-court coaching and creating scouting reports.
"I am so excited to have Mia join our staff as video coordinator," Edmonds said. "Mia was someone we identified very early on during the hiring process that we thought would be the perfect fit for our program and family. She has worked at successful programs before coming to Rice and knows what success looks like and how hard you have to work to achieve that. I love her energy, work ethic, and passion for the game and know she will be a great addition."
Gallo arrived at Boise State following the conclusion of her playing career at Cal State Fullerton. She walked onto the team prior to the 2016-17 campaign and would go on to play 52 games over three seasons. Gallo graduated from Cal State Fullerton in 2019 with a degree in kinesiology and would later earn her master's degree at Boise State.
McDonough comes to Rice after having served as the Director of Operations last season at Western Carolina. Previously she was a graduate assistant and student manager for the Baylor Lady Bears, where she oversaw all student managers, handled inventory of athletic gear, and helped coordinate logistics for the team during game days.
"I feel very fortunate to have come across Darryln's name when I was looking to hire a new director of basketball operations," Edmonds said. "Everyone that knows her speaks so highly of her and her ability to do the job above and beyond expectations. Darryln impressed me right away with her maturity, her knowledge of operations, and her creative thinking. She is extremely organized and understands what it takes to be elite in this profession. Darryln truly is a rising star in the business and I am so thankful she is here with us."
McDonough earned a bachelor's degree in psychology and received her master's degree in sport management in May 2021, both from Baylor.
