McNaney Captures Javelin Crown at C-USA Championships

SAN ANTONIO, Texas - The Rice Owls men's track and field team put the finishing touches on their best Conference USA Outdoor meet in program history on Sunday, finishing third as a team with 121 points.
Rice's 121 points were the program's most since joining C-USA and the most since 2005 when they scored 122.5 points as members of the WAC.
On Sunday, javelin thrower James McNaney secured his first career title with a season-best throw of 69.13m, a mark that ranks 11th in the NCAA West prelims. Also earning all-conference honors was Elian Ahmar, who placed second overall with a throw of 17.54m in the shot put.
Other Owls to score on Sunday included Corbett Fong in the javelin (4th-61.45m), Augustus Henry in the javelin (8th-55.57m), Elliot Metcalf in the 1500m (8th-3:52.78), and Grant Levesque in the 110m hurdles (8th-14.53).
Levesque was named the C-USA Freshman of the Meet after placing second in both the decathlon and pole vault.
