Slinkman's Vault Highlights Day Two of 44 Farms Team Invitational

BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION, Texas - The Rice Owls men's track and field team wrapped up their sixth week of the outdoor season on Saturday, earning four top-three finishes at the Texas A&M 44 Farms Team Invitational.
Sophomore vaulter Alex Slinkman, the reigning Conference USA Male Field Athlete of the Week, continued his momentum by placing second overall in the pole vault with a season-best clearance of 5.27m (17-3.50), succeeding on his final attempt. Slinkman's mark ranks 13th in the NCAA West region and 25th in the NCAA overall.
In the hammer throw, Nick Hicks established a season-best heave with a distance of 61.38m (201-4.00) to place second overall while teammate Shaun Kerry finished third (58.46m) in the event.
Freshman Augustus Henry moved into 10th place in the NCAA West region in the decathlon, accumulating 6957 points.
The Owls will next prepare for split competition between the Bryan Clay Invitational and Mt. SAC Relays.
