Owls Complete Jam-Packed Weekend

HOUSTON - The Rice Owls men's track and field team completed a busy weekend in California on Saturday, partaking in two different meets across four days.
Thrower Sam Woodley notched a victory in the discus at the Bryan Clay Invitational, recording a mark of 56.48m in Azusa, Calif. while Ese Amata turned in a fourth place result in the high jump, clearing 2.11m.
Andrew Abikhaled placed ninth in the 3000m steeplechase in that same meet to start the week, turning in a solid finish of 8:53.12.
At the Mt. SAC Relays, javelin thrower James McNaney placed third overall with a throw of 66.17m, a mark that leads all of C-USA and ranks 16th in the NCAA West region.
Just a pair of weekends remain before the Conference USA Championships, which will take place May 12-15 in San Antonio. The Owls will host the annual J. Fred Duckett Twilight next Saturday, April 23 at Wendel D. Ley Track and Holloway Field.
