HOUSTON - The Rice Owls men's track and field team had a strong showing at the 18th annual J. Fred Duckett Twilight on Saturday, winning five events while setting eight personal best marks and posting seven top-three finishes.

All five of the Owls victories came in the field events, four of which coming in the throws. Samuel Woodley began the day by winning the discus on his final attempt, unleashing a throw of 54.55m while Nick Hicks won his first hammer throw event of the season with a distance of 62.60m. Sophomore Elian Ahmar won his third shot put competition of the outdoor season with a personal best mark of 18.00m while sophomore Ese Amta also captured his fourth high jump title of the campaign, clearing 2.07m.

Near the end of the evening, James McNaney picked up his first javelin victory of the season, throwing 62.53m.

The Owls have one more meet on May 6 at the Tom Tellez Invitational before heading to San Antonio for the C-USA Championships, which run May 12-15.
