Big Innings Propel UTSA Past Owls

HOUSTON — UTSA used a six run fourth inning to take the lead and never looked back, taking Game Two of the series, 15-4, Saturday afternoon from Reckling Park.
The Story
UTSA jumped out to an early lead in the second inning. Ian Bailey led off with a double and advanced to third on a wild pitch. Chase Keng then brought him in with a sacrifice fly. An inning later, the Owls took advantage some defensive miscues to take the lead. With one out, Garza singled and Jack Riedel walked. Pierce Gallo then singled to load the bases. Guy Garibay reached on a fielder's choice to tie the game, but Matt King's throw got past the first baseman and went into the Rice dugout, bringing in Riedel. Aaron Smigelski followed with a grounder to first that got under Ryan Flores' glove, allowing Garibay to score and giving the Owls a 3-1 lead. But UTSA wasted no time getting it back, scoring six times in the fourth inning and again in the sixth. Rice got a run back in the bottom of the inning on a pair of doubles from Austin Bulman and Jack Ben-Shoshan. But that's as close as the Owls would get as UTSA added two runs in the seventh and five in the eighth.
Notes
• Manny Garza recorded his first career four-hit game, going 4x4.
• It was also his first career multi-hit game.
• Garza also recorded his first career double.
• Austin Bulman went 3x4, his fourth three-hit game of the season.
• Mark Perkins went 2.0 innings of relief work, his fourth game with at least 2.0 innings of relief.
