Owls Win Four Events at UTSA Invitational

Four victories in field events
SAN ANTONIO, Texas - Across two days, the Rice Owls men's track and field team picked up four victories in field events and and placed 10 athletes in the top-three overall at the UTSA Invitational.
Six of the Owls top-three finishes came in the throwing events, three of which occurred in the discus. Sophomore Samuel Woodley earned his seventh career outdoor victory with a winning mark of 53.88m in the discus, followed by teammates Nicks Hicks (2nd-51.20m) and Jorge Hinojosa (3rd-50.41m).
On Friday, sophomore Elian Ahmar won the shot put with a personal best mark of 17.57m while Hicks and Cal Abdulky finished second (58.14m) and third (50.67m), respectively, in the hammer throw.
Also earning victories for the Owls was freshman Grant Levesque in the pole vault, clearing 5.05m, and Ese Amata in the high jump (2.03m).
The Owls will next prep to host the 39th annual Victor Lopez Classic, which will take place Mar. 24-26 at Wendel D. Ley Track & Holloway Field.
