On The Road Again…
Rice closes its four-game road trip with its biggest test in Texas A&M on Sunday, Nov. 27, with tip-off at 2:00 p.m. The Owls will return home for a six-game homestand spanning the entire month of December, beginning Dec. 2 against TCU.
Picking Up Where We Left Off
Rice has opened the year 5-0 with home wins over Stephen F. Austin and Abilene Christian, before earning road wins at Saint Mary's, Pacific and most recently at Texas Southern. The Owls are searching for the first 6-0 start in program history after achieving the fourth 5-0 start for the program against Texas Southern last Wednesday. Malia Fisher (22 points, 13 rebounds) and Ashlee Austin (16 points, 10 rebounds) both recorded double-doubles en route to a 76-49 win over the Tigers.
Rice vs. Texas A&M
The Aggies lead the series 33-10 with A&M winning the most recent meeting 57-53 on Dec. 20, 2020.
Austin Tabbed for Preseason Honors, Owls Picked Fourth
Senior forward Ashlee Austin was named to the Conference USA Women's Basketball Preseason All-Conference Team while league coaches picked the Owls to finish fourth in the conference race. Austin earned second-team, all-conference honors as a junior after a season in which she was the only player in C-USA to rank in the top 13 in points per game, field goal percentage, free throws made, and free throw percentage. She ranked fourth in the conference in field goal percentage (46.3) and fifth in scoring with 16.5 points per game as well as free throws made (122). She established career bests in nearly every statistical category and scored in double figures in 22 of 27 games, highlighted by a pair of 30-point efforts (Sam Houston & Charlotte).
