In Brief: Maria Budin and Diae El Jardi dropped a tightly-contested battle with South Carolina's Ayana Akli and Sarah Hamner in the second round of the doubles main draw at the ITA Women's All-American Championships in Cary, North Carolina on Thursday.
The Details: Looking to advance to the quarterfinals on Budin's birthday, the Rice duo found themselves locked in a tight battle. The teams traded the lead several times before Akli and Hamner earned the advancement with a 12-10 win.
