FINAL RESULTS
COLLEGE STATION, TX – The Rice Owl's men's cross country team went up against a competitive field Saturday morning, placing 20th overall out of 41 teams at the Arturo Barrios Invitational 8k race on the Watts Cross Country Course.
Junior Travis Dowd was the Owl's top finisher in the morning, placing 45th out of 360 runners with a time of 24:46.2, improving on his result from 2 years ago at the same meet, when he finished 195th.
Freshman Grant Samara (81st-25:09.9) and Junior Daniel Cohen (89th-25:13.1) both finished in the top 100 for the Owls. Freshman Jackson Moran (136th-25:43.5) and Will McDermott (149th-25:47.5) rounded out the top 5 scorers for Rice on the day with their debut race at the Arturo Barrios Invitational.
"We had hoped to have a better day than we did. But a few calamities occurred that kept us from doing what we could have," said Coach Jon Warren. "Specifically, we had issues with a few of our top guys – 3 of which have been in our top 5 in the last 2 meets and were unable to finish this morning. That being said, Travis had a good day, as did Grant and Daniel. They stepped out to salvage what we could out of today."
Rice finished 20th out of 40 schools that competed in the meet with 456 points in front of UTSA (524) and behind LSU (453). The top 3 finishing schools are Texas A&M (71), Ohio State (136), and Tulane (142).
The Owls have their Conference-USA championship race up next on the morning of the 29th of October at Denton, Texas.
