Coach to Cure
Both coaching staffs will be wearing special arm patches in honor of the AFCA's Coach to Cure MD program, sponsored by Werner Ladder. The goal of CTCMD is to raise awareness and funding for Duchenne muscular dystrophy while demonstrating coaches' commitment to the betterment of young men and the core academic research missions of their universities. Help our coach tackle Duchenne by texting CURE to 501501.
Short Hops
Saturday's game with Texas Southern is the second of two home games that are hardly road trips for the opposition. The Owls hosted Houston on September 11 in the 40th Bayou Bucket. Both TSU and UH are located less than four miles from Rice Stadium.
Another New Face
Jake Constantine will become the 11th different signal caller to start at least one game for Rice since 2017, the most of any FBS school. Arkansas and Illinois have each started 10 over the same time period. Rice has started three different quarterbacks in 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2021 in addition to starting a pair in five games in 2020. Tyler Stehling started 11 of the first 12 in 2016 before suffering an injury in the 11th game that season. Driphus Jackson is the last QB to start an entire season for the Owls (12 games in 2015).
Next Up
Rice concludes the homestand next Saturday when open C-USA play as Southern Miss visits Rice Stadium at 5:30.
