Texas racked up 620 yards of offense and scored on eight of its nine possessions as Rice fell to the Longhorns, 58-0, Saturday night at Darrell K. Royal Texas Memorial Stadium.
The Story
Texas opened the scoring on its first possession, driving 69 yards for a six-yard touchdown run. After Rice went three-and-out, Gabe Taylor picked off UT quarterback Casey Thompson on the first play. Rice then drove down to the UT seven-yard line, but Collin Riccitelli missed a 30-yard field goal. Just three plays later, the Longhorns scored on a Roschon Johnson 72-yard run. On its next possession, Rice was forced to punt. But, Charlie Mendes' attempt was blocked and the ball went out the back of the end zone for a safety. The Longhorns opened the second quarter going 65 yards in just six plays, scoring on a seven-yard run. Rice couldn't get anything going, as it was forced to turn to third-string quarterback Jake Constantine after both Luke McCaffrey and Wiley Green left the game. Texas then scored on its final three possessions of the half as Rice went into the break trailing 44-0. Rice was held to just four possessions in the second half, gaining 284 yards of offense for the game.
