Three Owls Record Victories at UH Alumni Invitational

HOUSTON - The Rice Owls men's track & field throwers recorded five top-three finishes, including a pair of victories at Saturday's Houston Alumni Invitational, hosted by the University of Houston.
Sophomore Nick Hicks notched his second victory of the outdoor season by winning the hammer throw with a distance of 63.24m while freshman Samuel Woodley won the discus throw with a PR and meet record of 56.59m. Woodley's throw also ranked No. 2 all-time in program history.
Freshman Ese Amata also shined bright on Saturday, recording his third victory of the outdoor season by setting a season-best mark of 2.06m in the high jump. Amata's mark is tied for fourth in Conference USA this season.
Shaun Kerry (hammer throw-60.62m) and James McNaney (javelin-61.34m) placed second in their respective events while freshman Christopher Rivera picked up his third top-three finish of the outdoor season with a third place result in the shot put (15.89m).
Also placing in the top three was Evan Marshman, who finished third with a season-best mark of 59.25 in the 400m hurdles.
The Owls will next be in action next weekend when they partake in the Texas A&M Invitational, Apr. 9-10.
