Landa, Hicks Record Victories in College Station

COLLEGE STATION, Texas - The Rice Owls men's track & field team closed out the final day of the Texas A&M Invitational by recording a pair of victories and five top-three finishes at EB Cushing Stadium on Saturday.
Junior Hociel Landa concluded the meet for the Owls by winning the 3000m steeplechase with a personal best time of 9:06.24, a mark which ranks first in Conference USA this season. The victory was Landa's second career triumph in the steeplechase. In that same race, teammate Andrew Abikhaled placed second overall with a mark of 9:09.46.
Also securing a win for the Owls was sophomore Nick Hicks, as he took first place honors in the hammer throw with a winning toss of 63.38m (207-11). The victory was Hicks' third win of the outdoor season in the hammer throw. Freshman teammate Shaun Kerry notched a season-best mark of 61.43m (201-6.00) to place second behind Hicks in the same event.
Junior distance runner Alex Topini earned a third place result in the 1500m, finishing in 3:50.76 for his second top-three finish in as many weeks while sophomore Natan Rivera cleared 5.21m (17-1.00) to place fourth in the pole vault.
The Owls will next gear up for the Roadrunner Invitational, which will take place April 17 in San Antonio.
