
Owls Blank Roadrunners for fifth straight win

Houston: The 38th ranked Rice women's tennis team saw the entire lineup contribute as they picked up their fifth consecutive win, racing past UTSA 7-0 on Saturday at the George R. Brown Tennis Center on Breast Cancer Awareness Day.
Doubles: After Anna Bowtell and Victoria Smirnova picked up a quick 6-1 win at the third line, the Owls faced a stiff test to secure first point. UTSA held a 4-3 lead at the first line and had a pair of break points before Maria Budin battled back to hold. The Owls then broke the Roadrunners and Diae El Jardi served it out all the duo to improve to 6-2 and give the Owls a 1-0 lead. The doubles match also saw the return of Linda Huang to the court. The senior, who had been named the C-USA Women's Tennis Athlete of the Month for October during the abbreviated fall season, has been working her way back from an injury.
Singles: Bowtell, Michaela Haet and El Jardi raced to singles wins to clinch the win, while Federica Trevisan and Anastasia and Victoria Smirnova fought off challenges to round out the sweep.
