Owls Make Outdoor Debut at Longhorn Invitational

McNaney, Woodley record victories
AUSTIN - The Rice Owls women's track and field team made their 2021 outdoor season debut on Saturday, finishing third in team scoring at the University of Texas' Longhorn Invitational.
Rice received a pair of victories by their throwers, which included a lifetime best performance from James McNaney in the javelin. The Longview, Texas native launched a throw of 65.98m (216-6) on his fifth attempt. Meanwhile, Samuel Woodley won the discus in his outdoor debut with a heave of 53.15m (174-4) on his second attempt.
Also recording a second place result was Shaun Kerry in the hammer throw (58.68m) and Ese Amata (2.00m) in the high jump. Alex Slinkman carried over his momentum from winning the pole vault at the C-USA Indoor Championships with a PR clearance of 5.35m (17-6.50) to place third on Saturday.
The Owls will be back in action this Tuesday when they host the Rice Invitational from Wendel D. Ley Track and Holloway Field.
