Rice hosts Texas and Trinity this weekend
In Brief: The Rice men's tennis team (5-5) faces a stern test as it looks to move over .500 on the season when the Owls host #6 Texas at 1 p.m. on Friday. The matchup with the Longhorns is the first of two for the Owls who will host Trinity on Saturday at 11 a.m. as part of a combined match with the Rice women.
Fans in the Stands: Home matches at the George R. Brown Tennis Center are once again open to the public with the following guidelines.

Texas: The Longhorns are 11-3 this season and are coming off a road sweep at #26 Oklahoma State and #28 Oklahoma last weekend. They have won the last 15 meetings against the Owls, including a 6-1 win last year in Austin. The Owls lone point in the match came in doubles where they took the opening point from Texas for the first time in 16 matches. This will be the third meeting between the school at GRBTC with Texas winning 4-0 in 2016 and 7-0 in 2018. Rice's last win in the series came on 2/25/07, a 4-3 win in Austin. Texas has won the last six played in Houston (two each at GRBTC, Jake Hess Tennis Stadium and indoors at The MET).

National Champs: Friday's dual will mark the first time the Owls have hosted a home dual against the defending NCAA men's tennis champions since the team championship was changed to the dual format in 1977. Trinity: The Tigers are 3-5 this season heading into a match at Texas Lutheran on Friday. They lead the all-time dual series 7-6, including a 4-3 win in San Antonio on January 16. The two schools have a long history in the sport, highlighted by them tying for second and the 1970 NCAA Championship.

The Schedule Ahead: This weekend's matches are the fourth and fifth of a stretch of 12 consecutive home duals on the current schedule. The upcoming home slate features meetings with #30 Tulane, #31 Texas Tech and #50 SMU.
