
Owls Welcome Fans in Return to Tennis Action

Women host Wichita State and No. 25 Arizona State to GRBTC this weekend
In Brief: The Rice women's tennis team (4-2) returns to action this weekend by hosting matches with Wichita State on Friday at 1 p.m. and No. 25 Arizona State on Sunday at 11 a.m. The matches will be the first this season to be open to the public under the following guidelines.

Wichita State: The Shockers are 3-6 this season and have lost their last three matches. Rice leads the series 4-1, including a 4-0 win last year in Tempe, Arizona. This will be the first meeting between the two at GRBTC and the Shockers first visit to Rice since they dropped a 5-2 decision at Jake Hess Tennis Stadium in 2011.
Arizona State: The Sun Devils are currently ranked 25th in the most recent Oracle ITA national rankings and carry a 5-2 mark into a match with Wichita State on Saturday at GRBTC. Both the Owls and Sun Devils come into the weekend after facing Texas Tech in their most recent match. ASU dropped a 4-3 decision in Lubbock on February 14 while Rice snapped an eight-match losing streak to the Red Raider with a 4-3 win at GRBTC on February 6. Each school has also faced Baylor this year with the Owls falling 7-0 and the Sun Devils 4-2. This is the second meeting in history between the schools, with ASU taking a 4-2 decision in Tempe last season.

Schedule Update: Rice saw a pair of matches postponed due the recent winter storms and both have been rescheduled. The Owls will combine with the Rice men's team to host UTA on March 25 at 1 p.m. and then travel to Austin on Sunday, March 27 to face Texas. The match vs. Sam Houston, originally scheduled for February 12 before it was cancelled due to COVID-19 issues within the Bearkats program has not yet been rescheduled.
Next Up: The Owls homestand continues next weekend as they join with the Rice men in a combined dual on March 6 at 11 a.m. The women will open their 2021 Conference USA schedule by hosting UTSA while the men will welcome Abilene Christian to GRBTC.
