Topini, Rivera Earn All-Conference Honors

Owls place 4th at C-USA Indoor Championships
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Rice Owls men's track & field team placed a pair of competitors on the medal stand Sunday afternoon on the final day of the Conference USA Indoor Championships.
Distance runner Alex Topini earned his first career C-USA Indoor individual medal by finishing second in the mile with a PR time of 4:07.13 to collect eight team points for the Owls. Also earning a spot on the medal stand for the first time in his career was sophomore thrower Christopher Rivera, placing second in the shot put with a PR throw of 16.17m (53-00.75).
Other Owls who collected team points included the heptathlon foursome of Keegan O'Connor (4th-4174 pts), Dillon Stewart (5th-4144 pts), Corbett Fong (6th-3938 pts) and Chance Allshouse (7th-3499 pts). Sophomore Samuel Woodley scored at the C-USA Championships for the first time in his career, placing seventh (15.11m) in the shot put.
The Owls placed fourth overall as a team with 88 points, trailing champion Charlotte (177), North Texas (114), and UTSA (90).
