
Fisher Named C-USA Freshman of the Week

First league honor of the season
DALLAS – Rice women's basketball freshman forward Malia Fisher was voted the Conference USA Freshman of the Week after helping guide the Owls to a 69-61 victory over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi last weekend, the league office announced on Monday (12/13).
A native of Dacula, Ga. (Hebron Christian Academy), Fisher recorded her third consecutive game in double-figure scoring with 13 points on 4-of-10 shooting from the field, 3-of-4 at the free throw line, to go along with seven rebounds and a game-high four steals.
Fisher ranks second among all C-USA players in rebounds per game (9.7) and is the second-leading rebounder in NCAA Division I among all freshmen. Fisher also ranks second in C-USA in blocked shots per game (1.57).
The true freshman, who has started all seven games, is averaging 9.4 points, 9.7 rebounds, and 2.1 assists per contest.
Fisher and the Owls are back in action this Thursday, Dec. 16 when they travel to Huntsville, Texas to face the Sam Houston Bearkats. Tip-off is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. with the game streaming on ESPN+.
