Owls Continue Homestand, Host Texas Southern
The Owls are in the midst of a five-game homestand to open the season and welcome in crosstown foe Texas Southern on Wednesday. Rice and TSU were slated to play last December but the game was canceled due to COVID concerns. The Tigers won the last meeting that was played between the two teams on Dec. 7, 2019 when the Owls dropped a 63-56 decision at TSU. Rice leads the all-time series, 11-9.
Texas Southern Scouting Report
The Tigers are 0-2 to start the season and are coming off a 93-38 road loss at No. 3 Arizona on Monday. TSU opened the season with a 114-71 loss at DePaul back on Nov. 9. Ataiya Bridges, who was named a Preseason All-SWAC Second Teamer, leads the Tigers offensively, averaging 14.5 points per game on 38 percent shooting. TSU was picked to finish sixth in the SWAC Preseason Poll.
