Forbes Places Second at Paul Short Run

Owls finish 18th as a team in Pennsylvania
BETHLEHEM, PA - In her return to her home state, Rice sophomore Grace Forbes placed second overall out of 340 runners to highlight the Owls' performance at Friday's Paul Short Run, hosted by Lehigh University at the Lehigh Goodman Campus XC Course.
Forbes, who has already won both the Rice Invitational and Texas A&M Invitional this season, was just four seconds shy of winning her third meet of the season as she completed the 6k race in 19:58.4. Northern Arizona's Taryn O'Neill (19:54.8) won the individual crown on Friday. Forbes averaged a 5:21.3 mile, just a second off O'Neill's pace.
Other Owls who scored for Rice included Rachel Shoemaker (109-21:49.3), Lourdes Vivas de Lorenzi (118-21:54.2), Alyssa Balandran (150-22:14.8) and Haley Allen (174-22:29.1).
As a team, the Owls finished 18th overall out 38 teams with a score of 553. Northern Arizona (85), Villanova (85), and Utah State (93) finished 1-2-3.
The Owls will race again on Saturday, Oct. 16 at the Arturo Barrios Invitational (Texas A&M) in the final meet before the C-USA Championships on Oct. 30.
