Men’s Basketball Travels to UTEP for First C-USA Road Series

HOUSTON — Rice will head out on the road for the first time in conference play this weekend when it travels to El Paso to face UTEP, Jan. 8 and 9. Both games are schedule to tip-off at 8 p.m. CT. Friday's game will be livestreamed by CUSAtv while Saturday's game will be streamed by ESPN+.
Scouting Rice
• Rice enters this weekend's Conference USA series with an 8-2 record and 2-0 in C-USA after sweeping UTSA to begin league play.
• Sophomore Quincy Olivari leads the Owls with 18.0 points per game, which is fourth in Conference USA. He leads the league in three-point field goals made per game (3.5), is third in three-point field goal percentage (49.3%) and is fourth in field goal percentage (49.6%).
• Sophomore guard Travis Evee is second on the team with 14.7 points per game and leads the team in steals (1.4 spg). He is also third in C-USA in three-point field goals made per game (3.1) and is sixth in three-point field goal percentage (38.8%).
• Sophomore forward Max Fiedler is averaging nearly a double-double, scoring 10.9 points per game while pulling down 9.5 rebounds per game, good for second in the conference. He also leads the team in field goal percentage (66.7%) and assists per game (4.0), which is seventh in the league.
• Junior guard Chris Mullins is scoring 12.1 points per game while redshirt sophomore forward Riley Abercrombie is adding 7.9 points per game and is second on the team with 4.7 rebounds per game.
• Rice is averaging 82.3 points per game while allowing 70.5.
• The Owls are connecting on 46.0% from the floor and 35.8% from three while holding their opponents to 42.5% from the field and 32.9% from three.
• Rice is also outrebounding its opponents, 41.4-to-35.9 while placing second in the league with 17.4 assists per game.
• Head coach Scott Pera begins his fourth season leading the Rice men's basketball program. He holds a record of 43-62.
Scouting UTEP
• UTEP this weekend with a 5-3 record, 1-1 after splitting last weekend's C-USA opening series at Southern Miss.
• Redshirt junior guard Souley Boum is third in Conference USA in scoring, averaging 19.4 points per game. He is also third in the league in free throw percentage (84.9%), fourth in three-point field goal percentage (45.8%) and three-pointers made per game (2.8) and seventh in steals (1.9).
• Redshirt senior forward Bryson Williams is second on the team with 14.4 points per game. He is also fourth in C-USA in rebounds per game (8.1) and fifth in free throw percentage (49.5%).
• Junior guard Jamal Bieniemy is averaging 10.4 points per game. He is fourth in the league in assists (5.6), first in assist/turnover ratio (4.3) and 10th in steals (1.7).
• UTEP is averaging 75.5 points per game while allowing just 68.3.
• The Miners are connecting on 44.5% from the field and 33.1% from three. Their opponents are making 33.1% from the floor but just 29.1% from behind the arc.
• UTEP is pulling down and allowing 36.5 rebounds per game.
