Men’s Basketball Hosts North Texas in First Game of Home-and-Home Series

HOUSTON — Rice begins a home-and-home series this Friday, Jan. 29 when it hosts North Texas at 2 p.m. It will return the game on Sunday, Jan. 31, when it travels to Denton for a 3 p.m. game. Both games will be livestreamed at ESPN+.
Friday's home game will not be open to the public in accordance with the Rice University's COVID-19 mitigation policies. Rice continues to work with the Rice Crisis Management Team on potential seating layouts to accommodate some level of attendance for future games and will communicate those plans to our season ticket members and the public at the appropriate time.
Scouting Rice
• Rice enters this weekend's Conference USA series with a 10-6 record and 4-4 in C-USA after dropping a pair of games at UAB last weekend.
• Sophomore Quincy Olivari leads the Owls with 16.1 points per game, which is eighth in Conference USA. He leads the league in three-point field goal percentage (46.4%), is second in three-point field goals made per game (3.3) and is sixth in field goal percentage (45.7%). He is also second on the team with 4.8 rebounds per game.
• Sophomore guard Travis Evee is second on the team and ninth in C-USA with 15.5 points per game and leads the team in steals (1.4 spg). He also leads C-USA in three-point field goals made per game (3.4) and is second in three-point field goal percentage (41.4%).
• Sophomore forward Max Fiedler is averaging nearly a double-double, scoring 11.1 points per game while pulling down 9.5 rebounds per game, good for second in the conference. He leads the team in field goal percentage (68.4%) while placing fifth in the league in assists per game (4.3) and eighth in assist/turnover ratio (1.7).
• Junior guard Chris Mullins is scoring 11.5 points per game while redshirt sophomore forward Riley Abercrombie is adding 8.3 points per game and is third on the team with 4.6 rebounds per game.
• Rice is averaging 78.3 points per game while allowing 72.4.
• The Owls are connecting on 45.5% from the floor and 36.8% from three while holding their opponents to 43.5% from the field and 33.8% from three.
• Rice is also outrebounding its opponents, 39.0-to-34.9 while leading the league with 16.7 assists per game.
• Head coach Scott Pera begins his fourth season leading the Rice men's basketball program. He holds a record of 45-66.

• North Texas enters this weekend with a 7-5 record and 3-1 in Conference USA after having its series last weekend at Old Dominion postponed to due COVID.
• Redshirt senior guard Javion Hamlet leads the Mean Green with 12.8 points per game. He leads C-USA in free throw percentage (91.8%), is second in assists per game (5.2) and fourth in assist-to-turnover ratio (2.3).
• Senior guard James Reese is second on the team with 10.8 points per game.
• Senior forward Zachary Simmons is averaging 10.0 points per game and leads the Mean Green with 6.1 rebounds per game.
• Senior forward Thomas Bell is averaging 9.5 points per game and is second on the team with 5.9 rebounds per game. He is also sixth in the conference with 1.3 blocks per game.
• North Texas is averaging 74.3 points per game while allowing 62.3 points, which is second fewest in Conference USA.
