Owls Open Dual Season By Blanking McNeese

Face #23 Baylor on Monday
In Brief: The Rice women's tennis made a victorious return to dual completion, blanking McNeese State 7-0 at the George R. Brown Tennis Center on Saturday.
The Details: Playing a dual match for the first time since a 4-3 loss to Kansas at GRBTC on March 7, 2020, the Owls raced to a quick win in doubles by dropping only five combined games. They dropped only five combined games at the second, fourth and fifth lines to clinch the match and closed out with wins in a pair of tight matches to end the day.
Elizabeth Schmidt: "We were just really grateful to be back on the courts together as a team. We have played some individual tournaments, but everyone who loves college tennis knows there is nothing like a dual match. You always have a few jitters in the first match of the year and it had been an extended layoff for some of them, but I thought our team did a nice job. I thought the energy we brought to doubles was good and we stepped up when we needed to when McNeese pushed us. It was a good way to start the season and now we have a quick turnaround to get ready and go play Baylor, which we know is a tough team."
Up Next: The Owls will be on the road Monday to face Baylor (preseason #23) at 1 p.m. They will be back at GRBTC on Sunday, January 24 to face Louisiana.
