In Brief: Rice saw its hopes for an early lead dashed in a tight fight for the doubles point and then saw No. 23 Baylor race to a 7-0 lead at the Hurd Tennis Center in Waco on Monday.
The Details: Michaela Haet and Federica Trevisan improved to 2-0 on the season by racing to a 6-1 win at the third doubles line to give the Owls the early advantage, but Baylor evened things with a win at the first line to leave it up the second line to decide the first point. Anna Bowtell and Victoria Smirnova were tied at 5-5, but Baylor closed out the key points over the final two games to take a 1-0 lead. Baylor raced out to clinch the match with wins on four courts and then fought off challenges by Haet and Diae El Jardi to sweep the singles matches.
Up Next: The Owls (1-1) return home to host Louisiana as part of a combined dual with the Rice men's team, who will host Lamar. First serves for both matches are scheduled for 11 a.m. Sunday at the George R. Brown Tennis Center.
