
Carvalho, Dunbar Selected to CoSIDA Academic All-District Team

The duo was recognized as two of the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the track and in the classroom. The CoSIDA Academic All-America program separately recognizes track & field/cross country honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA. Honorees will advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America ballot. Academic AllAmerica honorees will be announced from June 22-25.
This year's Bob Quin Award winner, Carvalho was a team captain and C-USA All-Conference performer on the men's cross country team while also running distance events in track and field. The Cockeysville, Md. native, who just completed his Masters in space studies with a 3.88 GPA, was a four-time member of the C-USA Commissioner's Honor Roll and recorded three top-25 finishes at the C-USA Cross Country Championships. Carvalho was named the 2018 C-USA Men's Cross Country Scholar Athlete of the Year and the 2020 Rice University Scholar Athlete of the Year. Most recently, Carvalho earned the prestigious Fulbright Fellowship Award, which will allow him to study protoplanetary disks in Chile for nine months.
Dunbar, from Baton Rouge, La., posted a 3.97 GPA while majoring in Mathematics/Computational and Applied Math. A Rice Scholar Athlete of the Year and four-time C-USA Academic Medalists, Dunbar competed in four cross country races in 2019, which included an eighth place finish at the HBU Cross Country Carnival.
The men's All-District teams were selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). The District 7 honorees consists of 13 student-athletes that have earned a 3.3 cumulative grade point average or better and are a key member on their team.
