Series Finale Moved To 11 AM Sunday
BREAKING! Sunday Game Now 11 a.m.: In an attempt to avoid some expected rain in the area on Sunday, Texas Tech has moved the first pitch of the series finale to a new 11 a.m. start time.
Tape Delayed On FSSW+ : Because of the new 11 a.m. first pitch FSSW+ will broadcast the game on a tape-delayed basis.
Records/Series: Rice is now 2-12 overall. Texas Tech improved to 15-1 on the season with its tenth consecutive win. The former conference rivals were meeting for the 115th time dating back to 1958.
Owls Get Offensive: Rice tied its highest run total of the year (also had 12 vs. Missouri State) and posted a new season high of 19 hits. A year ago the Blue & Gray had 25 hits in a win over Prairie View.
Six Doubles: In the 19 hit attack five Rice players - Austin Bulman, Justin Collins, Trei Cruz, Bradley Gneiting and Braden Comeaux (twice) - all had doubles. The half dozen two-baggers were the most by an Owl team since getting seven in a home win over Old Dominion in 2018.
Scoring First In The First: Rice took the lead in the top of the first inning for the first time this season. The Owls had scored a total of eight first inning runs prior to Saturday. Each of those, however, were scored at home at Reckling Park and all were scored after the visiting had already plated runs in its half of the first inning.
Three Five-Run Innings: The Owls did a great job batting around for five big runs in the top of the second inning. Rice scored five runs on a total of five hits and one Red Raider fielding error. All the runs were scored with two outs already recorded in the inning and the Blue & Gray eventually built a 7-0 lead heading into the bottom of the third. It proved not to be the game's only five run frame. Texas Tech scored five runs in both the fifth and sixth innings. The Red Raiders scored a total of 17 runs from the fifth thru eighth innings.
Another New Uniform Combo: For the first time this season Rice wore its 'vest' style jersey with white pants. The Owls have worn eight different uniforms in 14 games played.
