Owls Host Lady Raiders on ESPN3
The Conference USA-leading Rice Owls women's basketball team will put their 10-game winning streak on the line Saturday vs. Middle Tennessee. Rice's 10 consecutive wins is tied for the 10th-longest active win streak in the NCAA. The Owls are 35-2 at home over the last 2.5 seasons and haven't dropped a C-USA home contest since Mar. 1, 2018. Middle Tennessee has won four straight games and sits in third place in the conference standings. The Owls defeated the Lady Raiders twice last season, including a 69-54 victory in the C-USA Championship game.
About MT
The Lady Raiders came from behind to defeat North Texas 80-60 Thursday evening in Denton after trailing by 13 in the first quarter. Charity Savage leads C-USA in rebounding with 11.2 rebounds per game and holds the ninth spot in the country. The senior ranks fourth in the country in total rebounds with 258 on the season. Anastasia Hayes leads the conference in scoring (17.7 points per game) and is ninth in the nation in free throw attempts (153).
C-USA Dominance
The Owls have the fourth-longest active conference win streak in the country dating back to 2018, having won 29 straight league contests. Only UConn (144), Baylor (51) and FGCU (37) have won more consecutive conference games than the Owls. The 29 consecutive wins is also the longest conference winning streak in league history. Rice is defeating their C-USA opponents this season by an average of 14.6 points per game. The Owls haven't lost to a C-USA opponent in a span of 709 days dating back to 2018.
Last Time Out
The Owls earned their 10th consecutive win and in the process snapped the UAB Blazers six-game winning streak with a 64-53 victory Thursday evening at Tudor Fieldhouse. Rice defeated their 29th straight Conference USA opponent by limiting the conference's No. 1 scoring offense to its second-lowest scoring output of the season. Rice senior guard Erica Ogwumike came up just shy of her eighth consecutive double-double with a game-high 25 points, nine rebounds, and four assists. Ogwumike surpassed 1,000 career rebounds in the contest, becoming just the 14th active player in the NCAA to accomplish the feat and only the second guard to do so.
