Men’s Hoops Returns to the Road to Face UAB

HOUSTON — Coming off a victory over first-place North Texas, Rice looks to keep the momentum going when it travels to Birmingham, Ala., to face UAB this Thursday, Feb. 6. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. CT and the game will be livestreamed by the ESPN+.
Scouting Rice
• Rice enters Thursday night's contest with a 10-13 record, including 2-8 in Conference USA. The Owls look for their second straight victory after defeating first-place North Texas last Saturday, 84-75.
• Sophomore Trey Murphy III leads the Owls with 13.6 points per game. He is second with a 36.7% three-point field goal percentage while placing third in rebounds (5.6). He is also fourth in the league in three-pointers made per game (2.6).
• Senior Robert Martin is second on the team with 11.8 points per game and 5.6 rebounds per game.
• Senior Ako Adams is third on the team with 10.9 points per game and is second with 2.5 assists per game while leading the team with a 38.7% three-point field goal percentage. He is also second in Conference USA in free throw percentage (90.6%) and fifth in three-pointers made per game (2.5).
• Sophomore Drew Peterson is fourth on the team in scoring (9.8) and leads the team and is 10th in C-USA with 6.3 rebounds per game and 3.1 assists per game.
• Redshirt junior Josh Parrish is averaging 7.0 points on the year, but 10.7 points per game in conference play. He is also tied for the league lead for field goal percentage in conference play, connecting on 68.8% from the field.
• Rice is averaging 73.3 points while allowing 75.7.
• The Owls are connecting on 43.0% from the floor and 34.5% from three while allowing their opponents to connect on 46.0% from the field and 32.3% from three.
• Rice's opponents are outrebounding the Owls, 37.0-to-35.8 but the Owls lead the conference and are 11th in the country in three-pointers made per game (10.0).
• Head coach Scott Pera is in his third season leading the Rice men's basketball program. He holds a record of 29-56.

• Freshman guard Jalen Benjamin leads UAB in scoring with 12.5 points per game while connecting on a team-high 33.0% from beyond the arc.
• Sophomore guard Tavin Lovan is second on the team with 11.5 points per game and is eighth in the conference in field goal percentage, connecting on 54.5% from the floor.
• Senior forward Will Butler is scoring 8.0 points per game and is third in the lead in field goal percentage (62.2%) and junior forward Makhtar Gueye leads the team with 5.3 rebounds per game.
• UAB is scoring 65.4 points per game while allowing just 63.3, which is third in the conference.
• The Blazers are connecting on 44.5% from the floor but just 31.0% from three while allowing their opponents to connect on just 40.4% from the field and 32.0% from three.
• UAB is pulling down 37.8 rebounds per game while holding its opponents to 30.8, the second lowest in the league.
• Head coach Robert Ehsan is in his fourth season at the helm of the UAB men's basketball program where he owns a 71-53 (.573) record.
