Sun Devils Hold off Owls

Owls open six-match homestand on Saturday with Texas State
Tempe, AZ: Anna Bowtell and Priya Niezgoda registered wins, but Rice could not overcome a tough loss in doubles as 18th ranked Arizona State downed the Owls 4-2 at the Whiteman Tennis Center in Tempe on Sunday.
Doubles: Michaela Haet and Linda Huang answered an ASU win at the first line with a late break to take a 6-4 decision on court two, but the Sun Devils staged a rally of their own, winning the last three games at the third line to take the doubles point.
Singles: Bowtell quickly evened the score at 1-1, dropping only one game to improve to 5-1 this season. Niezgoda closed the gap to 3-2 with her team-leading sixth win in singles but while Linda Huang had pushed her match to a third set, ASU closed things out with a win at the second line.
Up Next: Rice returns home to open a stretch of six consecutive home matches over the next four weeks by hosting Texas State on Saturday, February 22 at noon. The following day they will combine with the Rice men's team in the first of two simultaneous dual matches this season as each squad faces LSU. The two teams will also host a combined dual match on March 1 when the women host Baylor and the men host SMU
