HOUSTON - Rice grad transfer Lucas Ribeiro broke his own school record in the shot put to highlight the Owls performance at Friday's Howie Ryan Invitational. Ribeiro, who established a new indoor Rice record just last week, won the shot put at Yeoman Fieldhouse with a throw of 17.94m (58-10.25) on his fourth attempt. The victory was his fourth of the indoor season and moved him into the top-60 in the NCAA and second in Conference USA.
Also registering an individual victory was senior thrower Michael Yow, who won his second career event with a heave of 19.09m (62-07.75). In other field events, sophomore Alex Slinkman established a PR by clearing 5.15m (16-10.75) in the pole vault to finish fourth overall.
Other top finishes from the Owls included Elian Ahmar (4th-15.63m) in the shot put and Thomas Pratt (6th-5.00m) in the pole vault.
The Owls will now gear up for the C-USA Indoor Championships, which will take place Feb. 22-23 in Birmingham, Alabama.
