
Cross Country to Make Season Debut at C-USA Championships

Women's race at 9 a.m., men's at 10 a.m.
BIRMINGHAM, AL - The Rice men's and women's cross country teams will make their long-awaited season debut this Saturday, Oct. 31 when they compete at the 2020 Conference USA Championships, which will be hosted by UAB at Veterans Park.
The women will run a 6k race at 9 a.m. (CT) followed by the men's 8k at 10 a.m.
Men's Preview
The Rice men, who placed third at C-USA's last season, have finished in the top three at the C-USA Championships in 11 of the last 15 seasons and will be vying for their first-ever C-USA team title on Saturday.
The Owls return three all-conference performers from last year's squad, which includes Hociel Landa, Ace Castillo and Andrew Abikhaled. Joining them will be Matthew Murray, Elliot Metcalf, Travis Dowd and Davis Thames.
Women's Preview
The Rice women have won four C-USA team titles (2005, 2007, 2015, 2016) and have finished in the top three in 12 of the 15 seasons they've competed in the league.
Rice will be led by sophomore Grace Forbes, who was named the C-USA Freshman of the Meet last season with her fifth place finish. She'll be joined in the field by Rachel Shoemaker, Ashley Messineo, Taigen Hunter-Galvan, Halley Allen, Natalie Goddard, and Maddie Forbes.
