Men’s Basketball Continues Conference Opening Road Trip at WKU

HOUSTON — Rice continues its conference opening road trip this Saturday, Jan. 4 when it travels to Bowling Green, Ky., to face WKU. Tip-off is scheduled for 4 p.m. CT and the game will be livestreamed by ESPN3.
Scouting Rice
• Rice enters Saturday afternoon's game with an 8-6 record, including 0-1 in Conference USA. The Owls are looking to snap a two-game losing streak after falling to Marshall in its conference opener, 89-69, Thursday night.
• Sophomore Trey Murphy III leads the Owls with 13.5 points per game and 1.1 steals per game while placing third in rebounds (5.6). He is also fifth in the league in three-pointers made per game (2.4).
• Senior Robert Martin is second on the team with 11.4 points per game and 6.0 rebounds per game, which is 10th in the conference.
• Sophomore Drew Peterson is third on the team in scoring (10.6) and leads the team and is sixth in C-USA with 6.6 rebounds per game. He is also eighth in the league in assist-to-turnover ratio (1.5), ninth in three-point field goal percentage (.396) and 10th in assists per game (3.3).
• Senior Ako Adams is fourth on the team with 10.5 points per game and second with 2.2 assists per game. He is also third in Conference USA in free throw percentage (88.1%) and tied for 10th in three-pointers made per game (2.1).
• Rice is averaging 74.2 points while allowing 74.6.
• The Owls are connecting on 42.5% from the floor and 33.4% from three while allowing their opponents to connect on 45.0% from the field but just 30.7% from three.
• Rice's opponents are outrebounding the Owls, 38.2-to-37.3 but the Owls are second in the conference in three-pointers made per game (9.5).
• Head coach Scott Pera is in his third season leading the Rice men's basketball program. He holds a record of 28-49.

• WKU enters today's contest with an 8-5 record, including 1-0 in Conference USA. The Hilltoppers snapped a two-game losing streak on Thursday, defeating North Texas, 93-84, in their conference opener.
• Despite being out for the year with an injury, sophomore center Charles Bassey still leads the team with 15.3 points per game, 8.2 rebounds per game and 1.6 blocks per game.
• Junior guard Taveion Hollingsworth is second on the team with 13.1 points per game and leads the team with 2.9 assists per game and 1.1 steals per game.
• Graduate transfer guard Camron Justice is third on the team with 12.8 points per game.
• Redshirt junior forward Carson Williams is fourth on the team with 12.7 points per game and is fourth in the league in field goal percentage (59.8%).
• Redshirt senior guard/forward Jared Savage is averaging 10.4 points per game and 5.5 rebounds per game.
• WKU is second in Conference USA in scoring with 79.9 points per game while allowing 73.9 points per game.
• The Hilltoppers are connecting on a conference-best 48.3% from the floor while hitting on 36.1% from three. Its opponents are being held to 43.4% from the floor and 31.9% from beyond the arc.
• WKU is even with its opponents in rebounds, as both are pulling down 35.4 per game.
