Men’s Hoops Looks to Rebound against UTSA

HOUSTON — Rice continues its homestand this Saturday, Jan. 25, when it hosts UTSA. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. CT and the game will be livestreamed by the ESPN+.

Scouting Rice
• Rice enters Saturday night's contest with a 9-12 record, including 1-7 in Conference USA. The Owls look to rebound after falling to UTEP, 72-64, Thursday night.
• Sophomore Trey Murphy III leads the Owls with 13.7 points per game. He is second with a 35.7% three-point field goal percentage while placing third in rebounds (5.6). He is also third in the league in three-pointers made per game (2.6).
• Senior Robert Martin is second on the team with 12.1 points per game and 5.9 rebounds per game.
• Senior Ako Adams is third on the team with 10.3 points per game and is second with 2.2 assists per game while leading the team with a 35.8% three-point field goal percentage. He is also second in Conference USA in free throw percentage (90.0%) and ninth in three-pointers made per game (2.3).
• Sophomore Drew Peterson is fourth on the team in scoring (9.7) and leads the team and is seventh in C-USA with 6.7 rebounds per game. He is also eighth in the league in assist-to-turnover ratio (1.3) and leads the team in assists (3.1).
• Redshirt junior Josh Parrish is averaging 6.1 points on the year, but 9.4 points per game in conference play. He is also second in the league in conference play in field goal percentage, connecting on 68.2% from the field.
• Rice is averaging 72.1 points while allowing 75.0.
• The Owls are connecting on 42.0% from the floor and 32.6% from three while allowing their opponents to connect on 45.6% from the field but just 30.5% from three.
• Rice's opponents are outrebounding the Owls, 37.8-to-36.4 but the Owls are third in the conference in three-pointers made per game (9.4).
• Head coach Scott Pera is in his third season leading the Rice men's basketball program. He holds a record of 29-55.

Scouting UTSA
• UTSA enters tonight's contest with a 9-11 record, including 3-4 in Conference USA. The Roadrunners have lost two of their last three games after falling to North Texas on Thursday, 98-78.
• UTSA is paced by junior guard Jhivvan Jackson, the country's second leading scorer, with 26.4 points per game. He is also eighth in the conference in free throw percentage (85.2%) and 10th in rebounds (6.1) and steals (1.4).
• Jackson is joined by junior guard Keaton Wallace, who is third in C-USA in scoring with 17.7 points per game. He is also sixth in assist-to-turnover ratio (1.5) and eighth in assists (3.4) and steals (1.6).
• Senior forward Byron Frohnen leads the Roadrunners and is fourth in the league in rebounding, pulling down 7.1 boards per game.
• UTSA is second in Conference USA in scoring with 78.3 points per game. However, it is 13th in scoring defense, allowing 76.3 points per game.
• The Roadrunners are connecting on 43.0% from the floor and 35.7% from three. Their opponents are being held to 44.3% from the field and 32.1% from behind the arc.
• UTSA leads the league in rebounding, pulling down 39.5 boards per game while allowing 37.5.
• The Roadrunners are also second in the conference in three-pointers made per game, connecting on 9.8 per game.
• Head coach Steve Henson is in his fourth season at the helm of the UTSA men's basketball program where he owns a 60-60 (.500) record.

Rice-UTSA Series History
• Rice and UTSA will meet for 15th time overall.
• UTSA holds a 9-5 record in the series and has won four of the last five meetings.
• Rice, however, leads 4-3 in games played in Houston.
• Last year, Rice fell to UTSA in San Antonio, 95-79, in its Conference USA opener.
• The first six meetings came as non-conference foes. Since 2014, the teams have competed as conference foes when UTSA joined Conference USA.
