Men’s Hoops Continues Road Swing at Southern Miss

HOUSTON — Rice continues its three-game road trip this Saturday, Jan. 18, when it travels to Hattiesburg, Miss., to face Southern Miss. Tip-off is scheduled for 2 p.m. CT and the game will be livestreamed by the ESPN+.
Scouting Rice
• Rice enters Saturday afternoon's contest with a 9-9 record, including 1-4 in Conference USA. The Owls are looking for their first road conference victory after falling at Louisiana Tech, 72-56, Thursday night.
• Sophomore Trey Murphy III leads the Owls with 13.7 points per game, 1.0 steals per game and a 37.4% three-point field goal percentage, while placing third in rebounds (5.3). He is also third in the league in three-pointers made per game (2.7).
• Senior Robert Martin is second on the team with 11.5 points per game and 5.9 rebounds per game.
• Senior Ako Adams is third on the team with 10.6 points per game and second with 2.2 assists per game. He is also third in Conference USA in free throw percentage (89.1%) and seventh in three-pointers made per game (2.3).
• Sophomore Drew Peterson is fourth on the team in scoring (10.3) and leads the team and is seventh in C-USA with 6.7 rebounds per game. He is also eighth in the league in assist-to-turnover ratio (1.4) and 10th in assists (3.3).
• Redshirt junior Josh Parrish is averaging 5.6 points on the year, but 9.4 points per game in conference play.
• Rice is averaging 73.6 points while allowing 74.6.
• The Owls are connecting on 42.7% from the floor and 33.1% from three while allowing their opponents to connect on 45.1% from the field but just 30.1% from three.
• Rice's opponents are outrebounding the Owls, 38.2-to-36.7 but the Owls are third in the conference in three-pointers made per game (9.6).
• Head coach Scott Pera is in his third season leading the Rice men's basketball program. He holds a record of 29-52.

• Southern Miss enters today's contest with a 4-14 record, including 0-5 in Conference USA. The Golden Eagles have five straight games and seven of their last eight after falling to North Texas on Thursday, 72-52.
• Sophomore guard Gabe Watson leads Southern Miss in scoring with 13.4 points per game.
• Sophomore forward Tyler Stevenson is second on the team with 11.1 points per game and 6.0 rebounds per game.
• Junior guard LaDavius Draine is third on the team with 10.4 points per game and leads the team in three-point field goal percentage (36.3%).
• Redshirt senior forward Leonard Harper-Baker is averaging 8.2 points per game. He is fourth in the league in rebounds per game (7.3), is sixth in steals (1.8) and tied for 10th in blocks (0.9).
• Redshirt sophomore guard Jay Malone leads the conference in assist/turnover ratio (2.0) and is fourth in assists per game (4.0).
