Owls Place Second at Cowboy Stampede

Place top six runners in Top-20
LAKE CHARLES, LA - Following a two-week layoff, the Rice Owls women's cross country team placed second as a team at Saturday morning's Cowboy Stampede, hosted by McNeese State.
The Owls, who are ranked No. 7 in the latest USTFCCCA South Central poll, totaled 55 points and finished behind only No. 4 ranked Houston (44 points). Rice placed their top six runners in the Top-20, led by a third place finish from senior Khayla Patel. The Houston native, who was coming off an individual victory at the Rice Invitational, finished in 18 minutes flat in the 5k race and averaged 5:47 per mile.
Others scoring for Rice included sophomore Alyssa Balandran (9th-18:39.9), freshman Rachel Shoemaker (10th-18:46.7), sophomore Ashley Messineo (15th-19:06.3), and sophomore Mary Claire Neal (18th-19:20.5).
Also competing for the Owls was junior Natalie Goddard (20th-19:24.0), junior Loren Goddard (22nd-19:24.6), sophomore Stephanie Hallow (30th-19:35.1), junior Sarah Glover (31st-19:39.5), and junior Sage McAdams (49th-20:50).
Rice will be back in action next weekend when they compete at the Chile Pepper Festival, hosted by Arkansas on Saturday, Oct. 5.
