Patel Named C-USA Female Athlete of the Week

DALLAS – Rice senior cross country runner Khayla Patel was recognized by Conference USA on Tuesday by earning the Female Athlete of the Week award following her victory at last weekend's season-opening Rice Invitational.
Patel, from Houston (Memorial HS), rallied to win the 4k race with a time of 13:45, averaging 5:31 per mile to help guide the Owls to a third place team finish. The victory was Patel's third of her career and her second at the Rice Invitational.
Rice is currently ranked seventh in the latest USTFCCCA South Central Regional Rankings. The Owls will be back in action on Saturday, Sept. 28 when they partake in the Cowboys Stampede, hosted by McNeese State.
