Owl Senior A Candidate For National Player of the Year
The MAC Hermann Trophy, presented by World Wide Technology, is the most prestigious individual award in college soccer and is presented annually to the most outstanding women's and men's players of the year. The award's respective watch lists are compiled by members of the United Soccer Coaches Men's and Women's NCAA Division I All-America Committees.
A year ago Mananquil was named the Conference USA Midfielder of the Year as well as a First Team All-South Region honoree. The Jacksonville, Fla., native tied the Rice record in for assists in a single season (10) while also providing an attacking option for the Owls. She scored the game-winning goal at Charlotte on the final weekend of the season to clinch Rice's spot in the C-USA Tournament. Her play on the field is only part of the story. Mananquil maintained a 3.74 grade point average to be named a Conference USA Academic Medalist and a Rice Honor Athlete.
"We are excited for Lianne and she is richly deserving of this preseason recognition," said Rice head coach Brian Lee. "She is one of the top players I have ever coached and an even better person. Lianne is one of college soccer's most dynamic playmakers, however she hasn't reached her full potential quite yet. If her individual and our team growth continues on this path, it is easy to envision she and her teammates having a memorable season this fall. More importantly, Lianne is a wonderful ambassador for Rice University and the kind of student, athlete and person that embodies what we stand for as a program."
Mananquil is among Rice soccer's 17 letterwinners, and seven starters, returning for the program's August 5 report date. The Owls' 2019 schedule, featuring 11 home events at Holloway Field, is available above at the respective link. Fans are able to renew their soccer season tickets at RiceOwls.com/myaccount or call 713-348-OWLS.
Semifinalists for both the men's and women's MAC Hermann Trophy will be named on December 3. Three finalists will be announced on Dec. 13. The coveted award is scheduled to be presented on Jan. 10 in Saint Louis, Mo. The women's watch list honorees is as follows.
