
Five Owls Earn USTFCCCA All-Academic Honors

Men and Women also earn team academic awards
NEW ORLEANS - A total of five Rice University student-athletes were recognized as U.S. Track & Field Cross Country Association (USTFCCCA) All-Academic honorees, an awards that honors those who excel both in meets and in the classroom, the organization announced Tuesday.
In addition to the individual accolades, both the Rice men's and women's teams were recognized for Team Academic Awards. Under head coach Jim Bevan, the Rice women posted a 3.52 GPA while the men's squad under head coach Jon Warren earned a 3.36 GPA. All told, 366 teams were honored by the USTFCCCA for their academics with a breakdown of 227 women's teams and 139 men's programs. In order to qualify for team recognition a program must finish with at least a 3.00 cumulative GPA.
This year's Rice individual honorees included Charlie Card-Childers (Master of Global Affairs), Reagan Olguin (Kinesiology), Natan Rivera (Mechanical Engineering) on the men's side and Erna Gunnarsdottir (N/A) and Hannah Jackson (Bioengineering) for the women.
To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic honors, the student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative GPA of 3.25 and have met at least one of the following academic standards:
*For the indoor season, a student-athlete must have finishes the regular season ranked in the national top 96 in an individual event or ranked in the national top 48 (collective listing) in a relay event on the official NCAA POP list provided by TFRRS.org.
*For the outdoor season, a student-athlete must have participated in any round of the NCAA Division I Championships (including preliminary rounds).
