C-USA Champs Sign Budin

Rice women's tennis coach Elizabeth Schmidt has announced the addition of Maria Budin the Owls roster for the start of the 2019-20 season.
A native of Bristol, United Kingdom, Budin has a career-best ITF Junior ranking of 311 and has one ITF Junior singles and five doubles titles to her credit. She was ranked in the top 15 in the British U18 rankings. She was also ranked as high as sixth in the Lawn Tennis Association British Women's Tour final year-end rankings. She was a winner on the Women's Bolton British Tour in 2018.
A graduate of Colston's School in Bristol, she was named the school's best sportswoman in 2019 and received the tennis prize in each of the last three years.
She joins a Rice team that capture its sixth C-USA title in the last seven years in 2019 earning an eighth consecutive berth in the NCAA Championship.
"We are pleased to welcome Maria to the Rice family'" Owls head coach Elizabeth Schmidt said. "Not only is she an accomplished player but she is a top-notch student and person. Maria has the personality of a total team player and I know she will be an excellent fit in our program. Looking forward to getting her on campus in August."
