Leading Off, Saturday Double-Header Now 1 pm: Due weather conditions in the area there is a change to Saturday's (April 6) baseball double-header due to expected weather conditions in the area. First pitch for game one is now set for 1 pm. Game two of the double-header (the third and final game of the C-USA weekend series) would begin 45 minutes after the conclusion of Saturday's first game. The double-header replaces the game originally scheduled for Sunday (April 7). All Sunday tickets will be honored for Saturday's second game. Further updates can be found RiceOwls.com and @ricebaseball on Twitter.
Records: Rice improved to 14-18 overall with a fifth-straight win. The Owls are also now 5-5 in C-USA league play. FIU is now 11-19 on the season and 2-8 in conference.
Can-Do Canterino: Junior Matt Canterino pitched the first complete game of his collegiate career Friday to earn his third win of the season. The right-hander from Southlake, Texas, may have allowed five earned runs but he never really seemed to be in danger during the contest. He scattered just five hits and during one stretch retired 13-of-14 batters. Canterino in fact got better as the game went on, such as registering four of his seven strikeouts in the final two innings. Four of FIU's five runs were scored on the strength of two home runs.
First C.G. Since…: Matt Canterino's complete game was the first by an Owl since Blake Fox accomplished the feat on May 7, 2016 on the road at FIU.
Rice Power Surge: Senior Andrew Dunlap knocked his tenth home run of the season in the bottom of the first inning. The Owls' recent power surge features ten home runs in the last five games. Rice has already hit almost as many home runs this year (30) as the team did in all of last year (35).
Hitting Streaks: Junior Bradley Gneiting extended his current hitting streak to eight games to match the longest on the team this season. Sophomore Trei Cruz extended his hitting streak to seven games, but there is little more to his 1-for-3 night. Cruz saw a total of 31 pitches off three different Panther pitchers.
A Run On Runs: All eight of Rice's runs were scored by eight different Owls in the lineup.
