Owls Post Double-Digit Runs To Win Fourth-Straight
Records: Rice improved to 13-18 with a fourth-straight win. Sam Houston State is now 17-9 overall.
Double Digit Runs: Rice scored double digit runs for a third straight game, including 11 runs in back-to-back outings. The Owls have scored ten or more runs in a game seven times overall.
Power Surge: Sophomore Trei Cruz knocked his sixth home run of the season in the top of the first inning. Junior Cade Edwards then connected on a pitch for his third round-tripper of the year in the second. The Owls' recent power surge features nine home runs in the last four games
Individual Honors: The junior tandem of Bradley Gneiting and Aaron Beaulaurier both had three hits in the contest. Gneiting drove in three of the team's runs with a pair of doubles. Beaulaurier had a double, a textbook bunt for a base hit and a diving catch on a liner into centerfield.
Big On The Bump: Kel Bordwine made his fifth start of the year and worked 2.0 innings. Jackson Tyner followed and was sound and solid recording four strikeouts in 2.0 innings. Blair Lewis also pitched 2.0 innings with three strikeouts of his own. Garrett Gayle earned his second save of the year allowing just one hit with no walks and three strikeouts in 3.0 IP.
Double Play Days: Rice turned a critical double play with the bases-loaded in the bottom of the first inning, then tallied another twin-killing in the third. The Owls have turned at least one double play in each of the last three games, and the team has a total of ten DPs in the last seven games.
On Deck: Rice concluded its five-game road swing spanning the last eight days. The Owls are back home this weekend (April 5-7) for a Conference USA series against FIU. First pitch Friday at Reckling Park is set for 6:30 pm.
