Owls Continue Road Swing Friday At Old Dominion
Records: The Owls are now 9-18 on the season. Texas State improved to 16-9.
Battling Back: Rice trailed 5-0 to start the fifth but battled back with runs in four consecutive innings to tie the contest 6-6. The Owls then held off two bases-loaded rallies by the Bobcats in both the seventh and eighth innings on the way to extra frames.
Season High Doubles: Rice hit a season high five doubles. Bradley Gneiting was 3-for-6 with two doubles, the second of which drove in Rice's first two runs. The junior right fielder hit two doubles in a game last season at home vs. Old Dominion.
Hitting Streak: Junior Cade Edwards singled in the top of the second inning to extend his hitting streak to seven straight games. He has reached base in each of the last ten games.
On the mound: Sophomore right-hander Kel Bordwine started and worked 2.0 innings. He allowed one run which was unearned due to an Owl fielding error. A total of seven Owl pitchers saw action in the midweek clash. True freshman Blake Brogdon made his collegiate debut to start the bottom of the third. Brogdon is the 17th different Owl, and the fifth freshman, to pitch for Rice this season.
New look: The Owls wore their ninth different uniform combination of the season. Tuesday's Adidas threads featured the "R" blue jersey with gray sleeves, along with pinstripe pants and a blue cap. On March 16 at FAU Rice wore the same jersey with gray pants and a gray cap.
On Deck: Rice continues the current road swing with a three-game C-USA weekend series at Old Dominion March 29-31. Game times against the Monarchs are set for 5 pm Friday, 2 pm Saturday and 11 am in Sunday's series finale. All start times listed are Central Time.
