Rice Begins C-USA Tournament against Marshall

HOUSTON — No. 11 seed Rice will travel to Frisco, Texas, for the Air Force Reserve Conference USA Tournament. The Owls begin play this Wednesday, Mar. 13, when they face sixth-seed Marshall. Tip-off is scheduled for 9 p.m. and will be streamed live at ESPN+.
Scouting Rice
• Rice enters the Conference USA tournament with a 13-18 overall record. The 11th-seeded Owls dropped their season finale to Charlotte on Saturday, 78-70.
• Rice has four players averaging at least nine points, led by freshman guard Chris Mullins with 12.3. He also leads the team in with 2.6 assists and 1.2 steals.
• Junior forward Robert Martin is second on the team with 12.0 points and 6.3 rebounds. He is connecting on 46.3% from the field and is sixth in the league in three-point field goal percentage, connecting on 41.4% from behind the arc.
• Junior guard Ako Adams is third on the team with 11.5 points per game. He is connecting on 39.3% from three, good for ninth in the league while placing second on the team with 2.6 assists per game. He also leads Conference USA in free throw percentage, connecting on 90.5% from the line.
• Graduate student Jack Williams is scoring 9.3 points while leading the squad with 7.7 rebounds, good for fifth in the league.
• Freshman guard Trey Murphy III is scoring 8.2 points per game and is fifth in C-USA in three-point field goal percentage, connecting on 41.4%.
• The Owls are scoring 74.3 points but are allowing 77.4.
• Rice is connecting on 42.8% from the field and 34.8% from three. It is allowing its opponents to connect on 44.6% from the floor and 34.0% from three.
• The Owls are outrebounding their opponents, 38.4-to-36.6. However, in conference play, Rice led the league in rebounding with 39.9 boards per game.
• Head coach Scott Pera is in his second season leading the Rice men's basketball program.
Scouting Marshall
• Marshall enters the Conference USA Tournament with an 18-13 record. The Thundering Herd have won five straight games after defeating Florida Atlantic on Saturday, 76-61.
• Marshall is led by senior guard Jon Elmore with 19.9 points, good for fourth in the league. He also leads the team and is fourth in C-USA with 4.9 assists. Elmore is fifth in Conference USA in minutes played (35.7), tied for fifth in three-pointers made per game (2.8), is ninth in steals (1.6) and assist/turnover ratio (1.6) and 10th in free throw percentage (78.5%).
• Senior guard C.J. Burks is second on the team and sixth in C-USA with 17.7 points. He is also sixth in the conference in steals (1.9) and ninth in minutes played (34.2).
• Freshman guard Taevion Kinsey is third on the team with 9.9 points and is sixth in the league in field goal percentage (57.1%).
• Marshall is second in C-USA in scoring with 80.4 points per game but are allowing a league-worst 82.1.
• The Thundering Herd are connecting on 43.9% from the floor and 33.9% from three while their opponents are hitting 46.8% from the field and 36.0% from three.
• Marshall is being outrebounded by its opponents, 42.3-to-33.4.
• The Thundering Herd lead the league in three-pointers made per game (9.7) and is second in blocked shots (4.6), steals (9.2) and turnover margin (+3.9).
