
Rice Finishes in 14th Place at Louisiana Classics

Lafayette, La. — Rice golf shot a final round 10-over par to finish in 14th-place at 42-over par at the Louisiana Classics, played at the par-72, 6,866-yard Oakbourne Country Club.
Senior Grant Rogers led the Owls, tying for 38th place after carding a final round 73 to finish eight-over par. Freshman Austin Escamilla shot a 77 to tie for 63rd place at 12-over par.
Sophomore Jake Benson and junior Nicholas Duggan tied for 67th place at 13-over par after posting rounds of 73 and 75, respectively. Freshman Harrison Hineline rounded out the scoring by posting an 81 to finish 23-over par, tied for 85th place.
McNeese State won the team competition at one-under par, seven strokes in front of Illinois. McNeese State's Blake Elliott earned medalist honors at five-under par, one stroke in front of Illinois' Bran Baumgarten and Collin Clark of UTSA.

"The first round cost us this week. We are a much better team than our scores and finish showed. We need to regroup and get in the right mindset for next week's tournament in Cabo."
