
MT&F: Olguin Wins 800m at C-USA Indoor Championships

Ahmar earns all-conference honors in shot put
BIRMINGHAM, AL - Rice senior distance runner Reagan Olguin recorded his first career C-USA individual title by winning the 800m crown at Sunday's Indoor Championships. Just a day after running a leg on the winning distance medley relay team, Olguin won the 800m with a time of 1:51.66 to earn 10 points for the Owls.
Rice senior Charlie Card-Childers earned his first career C-USA Indoor All-Conference honor with a second place finish in the heptathlon, accumulating 5461 points. Card-Childers won the 60m hurdles (8.53) to begin Sunday competition and then placed second in the pole vault, clearing 4.80m (15-09.00). His 5461 points were a new PR by almost 350 points.
Also earning C-USA All-Conference honors for the Owls was freshman thrower Elian Ahmar, who established a season-best mark with a heave of 17.27m (56-08.00) to place third. Ahmar, from Glen Burnie, Md., saved his best throw for last to pick up six points for Rice.
Sophomore Alex Topini (4:12.31) and junior Matthew Murray (4:12.97) placed fourth and fifth in the mile, respectively, collecting an additional nine team points by besting their prelim times.
As a team the Owls finished fifth overall with 61 points and for the weekend garnered all-conference honors in five events while winning three titles.
